7 Things to Remember If You Want to Achieve Your Dreams

7 Things to Remember If You Want to Achieve Your Dreams

What would you be willing to give to achieve your dreams?

Have you ever felt like the odds are against you? You would love to give expression to your dreams, but nobody is taking you serious.

Whenever you think of discussing your dreams with someone, it seems like they are getting that vague, kind of ‘absent’ expression on their faces. It’s just as if nobody is interested. The only time you do get a response is when someone has something negative to say. You’ll get something like…. “Oh that will never work”, or “yes, we all have our dreams, don’t we?”

Wow, how motivating? That’s not exactly what you wanted to hear. Yet, you are kind of used to it by now. You realize that you’ve had this dream since childhood already, but nobody has ever taken you seriously. I mean, you don’t have what it takes anyhow (or at least that’s what are you thinking by now).

You don’t have the capital to start any business of your own either. And look how many times you have failed miserably on various other projects.

Maybe it’s time to get real and just accept your life for what it is. But you dread getting up every morning. You hate your job and you just don’t know how you are going to get through the day. Is this really all there is to life?

What has gone wrong in your life? Where did you miss it? What is your purpose? What on earth are you doing here? Do you even have a purpose?

It’s Your Choice.

The good news is; yes, you do have a purpose. The bad news (if you want to call it that) is that nobody is going to hand you the answers on a silver platter. You have to find your purpose, go after it, and choose to fulfill it.

You have been created with a purpose. Whether you fulfill your purpose or not is a matter of choice.

I can hear you going…“What? How can you say it’s my choice? I can’t help for what my circumstances are like. I have no say in that.”

There is a ‘yes’ and a ‘no’ answer to that. No, you don’t have control over external factors and what happens in the world around you. You don’t have control over the thoughts, opinions and actions of the people around you either. But what you do have control over is how you respond to what happens around you.

If you need approval from someone else before you start working on your dream project, you are going to wait for a very long time.

Do You Recognize Any of the Following Scenarios? Prepare Yourself Mentally and Don’t Allow it to Hold You Back.

None of these should cause any stumbling blocks. Yet, when we face them unexpectedly you don’t even realize it and it can really be demotivating:

  1. Nobody shows any interest in your dreams. The question is; have you taken any positive action yet? Maybe people got used to you talking about your dreams. But nothing has happened yet. So, why should they start jumping over the moon every time you talk about it?
  2. We all talk about our ‘dreams’. And it’s ‘normal’ to just day-dream a bit every now and then. We all do it, but everybody has his own little dream and everybody else’s dream is kind of boring. For that same reason, when someone else doesn’t get excited about your dreams, it is because it is not a priority to them personally. That shouldn’t stop you from working towards your dreams.
  3. When you do start taking action, you are met with resistance. The majority of people will be quick to tell you how you are going to fail. They will remind you of all the risks involved. They will point out your lack of available capital and who knows what else. I will assume at this point that you didn’t start taking action impulsively. If not, good for you. Then these comments shouldn’t have any negative influence on you. You should be prepared.
  4. Many people will try to discourage you from following your dreams. Unconsciously they may fear being left behind. They can start feeling inferior or think that they might lose your friendship. You can assure them of your sincere friendship and loyalty and invite them on the journey with you. If they cannot share your joy of achieving your dreams, you may have to choose between following your dreams and such friendships.

Take Control of Your Destiny.

Nobody has control over what happens externally in the world around us. We will always have to face some challenges. We will have to deal with crime, violence, bad economy and corruption.

None of us can accurately predict the future. There is no-one on this planet who can say with absolute certainty where he / she will be one year from now and exactly what he / she will be doing.

But you can control how you respond to what is happening around you and to you at this present moment. Your actions of today and how you respond will have an impact on your life tomorrow. Whether it is positive or negative; but it will have an impact.

Remember these 7 Things if You Want to Take control and Achieve Your Dreams:

  1. Make a Quality Decision.

Consciously make a quality decision of what you want to achieve in life and who you really want to be.your dreams

  2. Take Stock of Yourself.

Is it realistically possible for any human being to achieve your dream? Take note, I say ‘….for any human being’. Don’t limit yourself by your current lack of finances, knowledge or ability. These can be obtained along the journey.

  3. Your Dream Must Be Your Dream.

Don’t allow anybody else to tell you what they think you should be doing with your life. Live your own dream. That will enable you to stay motivated. Whether you believe it or not, you have something unique to offer to the world. Get guidance, learn from the experts, but keep your own identity. Be yourself and serve it to the world in your own unique way. If you feel intimidated, you are not alone. I have recently read a great article by Danielle Bernock. She talks about the importance of “staying true to oneself and not allowing the pressure to change you”.

  4. Be Careful of Who You Discuss Your Dreams With.

Once you have determined your dream and you start making it public, don’t allow anybody to tell you what you can or cannot do. It might also be wise to be selective as to who you discuss you plans with; especially in the beginning stages. Don’t talk to people who you know will be negative about your dreams. Yet, be open-minded enough to take advice from people who will give constructive criticism.

  5. Change Your Belief System.

You might have to change your belief system at this stage. The good news is; it can be done. This might be one of your bigger challenges because you started developing your ‘belief system’ from a very young and tender age.

  6. Take Charge of Your Thoughts.

Take charge of your thoughts and change the way you respond to everyday circumstances. Instead of living in fear, find ways to overcome your fear. Instead of saying “I can’t afford it”, ask yourself “what can I do to enable me to afford it” or “how can I afford it?” If you lack knowledge, enroll for some courses and learn the necessary skills.

  7. Be Prepared and Take Appropriate Action.

Although you have no control over what will happen tomorrow, nothing is preventing you from being prepared. Take control of what is happening today and plan for the outcome that you would like to see tomorrow. Then take appropriate action. As you set goals and develop your plans, nothing is cast in concrete. As circumstances change, nothing prevents you from adopting your plan of action accordingly.

I am sure that by now you can clearly see that you have way more control than what you have thought. It all starts with a decision, a quality decision to make a choice.

We all experience different seasons in life. Sometimes we have good seasons. At other times we go through bad seasons. Don’t get stuck in those bad seasons. Make a conscious decision to do what you need to do to get yourself out of a bad season. The longer you remain there, the harder it becomes to get out of it.

Over to You.

Are you in a good season? Do you enjoy giving expression to yourself in what you do? Or do you feel intimidated by what other people might think or say? Where do you find yourself on your journey? Are you on your way to achieve your dreams?
